Rules: Missing Sessions
Obviously, stuff comes up and people have to miss sessions sometimes. As much as I wish we could always have everyone present, this just isn’t possible. So if only one person is missing a session, we’ll continue without them and either make up an excuse for why their character isn’t around, or just not worry about it. (No, you can’t have them use their items. No, you can’t steal their items. For all intents and purposes, they aren’t there.)
If two or more are missing, we’ll cancel. I also think that if a player misses too many sessions in a row, they will feel out of touch with the campaign and have no idea what’s going on when they return. So if a player has to miss a second session in a row, we’ll cancel.
That’s the general policy, at any rate. I reserve the right to call things differently if circumstances warrant.
If you do have to miss a session, please tell me ahead of time! I might be planning something for a session that specifically involves your character. If you give reasonably advanced warning, you get half the XP that the other players got for that session when you return. If you just aren’t there, you get nothing except my ire.
Extended absences will be treated differently. If you’re going to be gone for a while, we’ll go on without you, but you’ll get XP to help make up the difference in level when you return.
Also, so far the tradition has been to have the other players recap what the absent player missed at the beginning of the next session. In some circumstances, I might prefer to keep the player ignorant, but I’ll tell you if this is the case.
